Local artists Ann Bellamy and Janet Bates with Local artists Ann Bellamy and Janet Bates with Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery Heritage Manager Sarah Wilson at the gallery this morning.

The trio are posing with a sculpture called "Boar" by Dame Elizabeth Frink, R.A. (1930–1993).

This striking bronze sculpture, created around 1957, was commissioned by Sir Frederick Gibberd and partners for Harlow New Town, where one of the four casts still stands today.

Frink had a deep fascination with animals, particularly powerful and untamed creatures like the boar. She also featured this subject in her Eight Animals series of lithographs. Having lived in Southern France, where wild boars still roam, she may have drawn inspiration from her surroundings.

A brilliant example of her raw and expressive style, Boar captures both strength and movement in a way only Frink could achieve.

📍 Acquired through the Ealand Warwick Bequest.
